What we offer
Three services, one working relationship
Book any of these on its own. Each is designed to stand alone, though many reporters return for more than one over time.
First Draft Structure Clinic
80 minutes · One session · Draft required
A short, practical session for reporters who have gathered their material but cannot see the shape of the piece. We work through what the opening should establish, which order the evidence belongs in, where the reader is likely to lose the thread, and what can be cut without loss. Best suited to writers with a draft already in hand.
What's included
- ■One 80-minute working session on your text
- ■A marked-up outline sent afterwards
- ■A short written note on structural habits worth carrying forward
Records Research Guidance
Two 1-hour sessions · Over two weeks
Guidance on finding and reading the documents that support a story, using lawful and openly available routes. Covers Kenyan public registers, county assembly papers, published tender notices, annual reports and gazette entries, and how to request material through proper channels. Aimed at reporters who rely too heavily on interviews and want documentary support.
What's included
- ■Two one-hour sessions spaced across two weeks
- ■A written route map for one subject of your choosing
- ■Sample wording for a written request to a public body
Independent Practice Review
Three 1-hour sessions · Over one month
A considered look at how you work, rather than at any single article. We review your typical process from idea to publication, where time is lost, which stages you tend to skip under pressure, and what a sustainable weekly rhythm might look like for you. Intended for reporters two or more years into working on their own.
What's included
- ■Three one-hour sessions over a month
- ■A written summary after each session
- ■A workload plan you can revise yourself, plus notes on setting boundaries with editors
